The Largest Fireworks Display West of the Mississippi River
Every year on July 4th, the night sky over Idaho Falls lights up with the largest annual fireworks displays west of the Mississippi River and one of the best fireworks shows in the US. Known as the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration, this annual tradition draws more than 200,000 spectators to Idaho Falls for a patriotic event that honors the sacrifices of America’s military veterans and service members as well as the Founding Fathers.
The event is more than just a July fireworks display—it’s a full evening of reflection and patriotic celebration. Before the show begins, visitors gather at the outdoor amphitheater for a tribute that brings together music and narration. Melaleuca founder Frank VanderSloot created the fireworks show to honor those who have served and reminds attendees of the true meaning behind Independence Day.
The display is launched from a secure area near the Snake River and is visible from multiple vantage points across the city. Spectators often spread out across Snake River Landing, Freeman Park, and surrounding neighborhoods and parking lots to get a clear view. And the American Pyrotechnics Association has called the show a “must-see” fireworks display.
The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration is sponsored by Melaleuca: The Wellness Company, a longtime Idaho Falls–based business with a strong emphasis on honoring veterans and giving back to the community. The company covers the entire cost of the fireworks, including tens of thousands of shells fired during a high-tech, professionally produced show.
For many locals, the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration is the highlight of the summer; the Melaleuca fireworks have been named Best Local Event multiple years in a row. And for visitors, it’s a memorable way to experience the patriotic spirit and community pride that Idaho Falls is known for.
